Love, betrayal, pirates, and war collide in Tempest, the first book in Victoria Aveyard’s Lyrian Sea series and her adult fantasy debut.

Cat Rose has lived two very different lives: first as Lady Catrine Rose of the Meridian Empire, trapped in an unwanted marriage, and later as the Widow Rose, queen of a pirate tavern in the Lyrian Sea. Now the Meridian Empire is determined to crush the pirate republic, and one legendary captain continues to evade its forces: Valerian Kane, the only man Cat has ever loved.

Facing execution, Cat is given a brutal choice by the Empire: capture Valerian or hang. What follows is a romantic high-seas fantasy filled with piracy, political intrigue, old betrayals, and a heroine determined to survive whatever storm comes her way.
